Learn more about Dr. Matt Carnley

Dr. Matt Carnley was born in Pocatello, Idaho, but was raised and has spent most of his life in Sandy, Utah. Growing up he enjoyed playing competitive soccer and traveling the country competing in several tournaments. He attended Brighton High School and then continued his undergraduate education at the University of Utah, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, studying Health Promotion and Education.

Because of his early interest in dentistry, he spent seven years working as a surgical assistant for Dr. Kyle Christensen—an oral and maxillofacial surgeon right here in the South Jordan area, fueling his desire to pursue a career in this remarkable field.

Dr. Carnley then moved to Portland Oregon to attend dental school at the Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry (OHSU). During his dental education, he took particular interest in studying and researching the temporomandibular joint (TMJ), winning several research awards/fellowships. Despite the challenges brought on by the COVID-19 Pandemic, Dr. Carnley graduated top 15% of his graduating class.

After graduation he returned to the Salt Lake valley with hopes of joining the premier dental group at Jordan River Dental—a place where he had been a patient for 15+ years. Dr. Carnley joined the practice in 2023 and enjoys being a part of the South Jordan community once again.

Living near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon, Dr. Carnley enjoys spending his free time outdoors as much as possible. He has a 10-year-old Silver Lab named Sterling, who is obsessed with swimming, hiking, and camping.
